Biography

 
 

Born in Belgium under a Japanese mother and an English father.  Started her classical training at the age of 5 with her mother, Mitsuyo Kishibe in Japan.  Studied at the Stedelijk Instituut voor Ballet in Antwerp, Belgium from 1991-1993.  Joined the Colorado Ballet in 1994, and moved back to Japan in 1997 to join the New National Theater Ballet, Tokyo.  She has danced with various choreographers and companies such as the Tokyo Festival Ballet and the Japan Ballet Association as a soloist.  While still actively dancing, she also started her career as a choreographer.  In 2001, she created her own company “Unit Kimiho”.  Apart from her work with her own company, she has been invited to various companies and schools such as the New National Theater Ballet, New National Theater Ballet Apprentice School, Tokyo City Ballet, NBA Ballet, Aoyama Theater productions, Royal Ballet School of Antwerp (Belgium), Het National Opera (Netherlands) to create works. She also has worked in various fields other than the dance world.  Some of the works are, “Oboreru Sakana” a movie by Yukihiko Tsutsumi, “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” with the Subaru Theater,  “Die Soldaten” by Willy Decker, Johnson and Johnson contact lens commercial, and Angela Aki”s music video “Hajimari no Ballad”. 

She also puts energy into training young ballet dancers in contemporary dance.  Many of her creations have led them to being finalist in International Ballet Competitions such as the Prix de Lausanne and the Youth American Grand Prix. 

2007, Finalist of the Yokohama Dance Collection R Solo X Duo Choreography Competition.  The same year, she produced her first production of the Unit Kimiho, “Garden of Visions”.  Receives the Best Rookie Award from the On Stage Newspaper.  In 2008, the company was invited to perform for the 20th Anniversary of the Sapporo Art Park, and created “Agua”.  2009, 2nd performance of Unit Kimiho, “White Fields”.  2010, won the Audience Prize with “White Fields” at the Toyota Choreography Award 2010.

She works Nationally and Internationally.  Many of her works are featured on our connection with the nature, and connection among each other.  She works as a dancer and choreographer in both classical and contemporary fields.
